MAYA GANDAIA

The Fabrics
Every piece we make begins with the same question… what is good for the body and good for the planet? The fabrics in the Maya Gandaia collection are our answer to that question, chosen because they tend rather than deplete, because they are made from materials the earth can reclaim, and because what sits closest to the skin deserves to be the most considered thing we own.

We do not use synthetics. We do not use polyester, nylon, or acrylic. Not because it is fashionable to say so, but because the research is clear and the body deserves better. Synthetic fabrics sit against the skin and create heat, trap moisture, leach chemicals, and shed microplastics into water systems and into the body itself. Microplastics have now been found in human uterine tissue, in ovarian follicular fluid, in the pelvic space. This is not a small concern. It is one of the reasons Maya Gandaia exists.

Silver Thread · GLOW Fabric
THE BODY’S PROTECTOR · MAYA METAMORPHOSIS
Silver has been known for centuries as one of nature’s most powerful antimicrobial materials… In Maya Gandaia’s GLOW fabric, silver threads are woven directly into the material, creating a garment that is naturally antimicrobial and antibacterial from the first wear. It protects the body’s own delicate ecosystem — the microbiome, the flora and fauna that keep us well — rather than disrupting it the way synthetic fabrics do.
GLOW fabric also offers EMF protection and natural grounding properties. It is the fabric we chose for the pieces that sit closest to the most sacred space the body carries.

Umorfil · Collagen Fibre
FROM TAIWAN · WASTE TRANSFORMED · MAYA METAMORPHOSIS
Umorfil is made from the scales of fish… waste from food production transformed into something extraordinary. The fibre contains collagen — the same protein that gives skin its elasticity and luminosity. Worn directly against the body, Umorfil supports the skin’s own luminescence… it is naturally antibacterial, breathes beautifully, and its properties do not wash out over time. What you feel the first time you wear it is what you feel the hundredth time.
This is the fabric of our LUMINESCENCE bodysuits, available in all seven chakra colours. Wear the energy you are calling in, in a fabric that tends your skin while you do.
Collagen-laced · Antibacterial · Skin-nourishing · Breathable · Properties retained through washing

Rose Fibre · ROOKSANA Fabric
FROM ROSE CELLULOSE · NATURALLY PINK
Rose fibre is derived from rose cellulose… and it is naturally, beautifully pink. No dye. No chemical process. The blush tone is the fibre’s own colour, which means it carries none of the harmful chemical load that most pink fabrics do. Rose fibre is breathable, antibacterial, and protein-based from organic plant matter. It is completely environmental from beginning to end.
In Maya Gandaia, rose fibre is the fabric of ROOKSANA — our rose tone, named for the alchemical Rubedo, the flowering stage of transformation. The colour and the fabric are the same story: something tender that is also entirely whole.
Naturally Pink · Antibacterial · Breathable · Protein-based · Zero chemical dye · Fully environmental

Recycled Silk ·
ANIMAL-FRIENDLY · SECOND LIFE · MAYA GANDAIA COLLECTION
Conventional silk production kills the silkworm before it can emerge from its cocoon. Peace silk and recycled silk take a different path — using material from already-emerged cocoons, or from reclaimed silk fabric given a second life. The result is a fabric with all the luminosity and drape of silk, and none of the harm.
This is the fabric of our signature collection pieces — CHRYSALIS, WINGS, SOVEREIGN. It moves the way water moves, breathes against the skin, and carries the butterfly lifecycle philosophy at its very core. The WINGS scarf that wraps you today will become something a child flies with tomorrow.
Animal-friendly · Recycled · Peace process · Luminous drape · Breathable · Second-life philosophy

Hemp
ONE OF THE EARTH’S OLDEST FIBRES · MAYA MOVEMENT COLLECTION
Hemp has been grown and worn for thousands of years… and the planet has always known why. Hemp requires no pesticides, no irrigation beyond rainfall, and improves the soil it grows in. It is one of the most sustainable crops on earth. As a fabric it is naturally breathable, antibacterial, and incredibly durable — it softens with every wash without losing its strength.
In Maya Gandaia, hemp is used in the Maya Movement collection — the pieces made for the body in motion. It grounds and breathes simultaneously, which is exactly what a dancing body needs.
Pesticide-free · Soil-regenerating · Naturally breathable · Antibacterial · Softens with wear

Organic Cotton
CERTIFIED ORGANIC · NO COMPROMISE · MAYA MOVEMENT COLLECTION
Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically intensive crops in the world, using vast quantities of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers that end up in soil, waterways, and in the bodies of the people who farm and wear it. Organic cotton uses none of these. It is grown without harmful chemicals, certified to protect both the farmer and the wearer.
In Maya Gandaia we use certified organic cotton only. It is soft against the skin, breathable, and carries none of the chemical load of its conventional counterpart. Blended with hemp or linen where appropriate, it becomes something even more considered.
Certified organic · Chemical-free · Breathable · Skin-safe · Farmer-protective

Tencel
FROM WOOD PULP · CLOSED-LOOP PRODUCTION · MAYA MOVEMENT COLLECTION
Tencel is made from sustainably sourced wood pulp in a closed-loop process that recycles almost all of its water and solvents. The result is a fabric that is exceptionally soft, moisture-wicking, and biodegradable. It has a natural drape that sits somewhere between cotton and silk, and it breathes beautifully against the skin. Tencel is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and produced in a way that returns almost nothing to the environment that the environment cannot absorb.
In Maya Gandaia, Tencel is used in the knitted, seamless pieces — the construction method that creates stretch and movement without the need for synthetic lycra or elastane.
FSC Certified · Closed-loop production · Biodegradable · Moisture-wicking · Naturally soft

None of our fabrics end up in landfill… every piece is designed with its second life in mind. When a garment has lived its first life with you, it returns to us and is transformed — into butterfly wings, jellyfish puppets, aerial silks for children. Two beautiful lives, zero waste, infinite joy.

What we wear is part of what we carry. We chose these fabrics because the body deserves better… and so does the earth.
